A nine-year-old Jacksonville resident is dead following an ATV accident over the weekend.
Johnathan C. Gittemeier, a student at Northeast Randolph R-4 (Cairo), and the son of Frank and Kerry Gittemeier, Jacksonville, Mo., was pronounced dead by Dr. Monica Prost, MD, at Moberly Regional Medical Center, Moberly, at 7:34 p.m., on Saturday, April 20.
Per the report of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, who responded to the scene, along with the Randolph County Sheriff's Department, Gittemeier was operating a 2009 Polaris Sportsman on the evening of April 20, traveling eastbound through a field about 0.3 miles from County Road 1985, when he lost control of the vehicle, which overturned.
The Sheriff's department report follows up from there, stating the original call-in was in regards to an "injured" juvenile. RCSD deputies, upon arrival, provided first aid to J. Gittemeier until Randolph County EMS arrived on the scene.
J. Gittemeier was transported to the MRMC by Randolph County EMS, where he was later pronounced dead. His body was then transported to the Boone County Medical Examiner's office.
F. Gittemeier told the RCSD that his son "had been riding a [four] wheeler on trails in the area and was late getting back." When he went to look for him, F. Gittemeier found that Johnathan "had turned the [four] wheeler over and was injured."
The ATV received only minor damage, and was removed from the scene by the family.
This is Troop B's fourth fatality of 2013.
Per Randolph County Coroner Gerald Luntsford, the Johnathan C. Gittemeier autopsy was scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday.
