On Monday, April 22, the Macon Police Department will present Project Prom Docu-Drama 2013 to the students of Macon High School. Project Prom is an event like no other. The Macon Police Department has coordinated with multiple emergency responder agencies to present a drunk driving vehicle crash scenario to the student body. During the scenario, emergency crews including Highway Patrol, Police, Fire, Medical and Rescue Squad act out a vehicle crash scene. The vehicle crash is caused by a teen who has been drinking after Prom and crashes into another vehicle. Students will watch as the plot unfolds and emergency medical helicopters are landed at the scene. Agencies involved in the presentation are the Macon Police Department, Macon County E-911, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Macon County Sheriff's Department, Macon Fire Department, Macon Rural Fire Department, Macon County Ambulance, Macon County Rescue Squad, Staff For Life, Air Evac and the Macon County Coroner. Other assistance is being provided by Still Towing LLC, Sherry's Flowers and Macon County Economic Development. The Macon High School staff has also been a big part of the planning process in order to make this event possible.
Our department is notifying the public of this activity because there will be numerous emergency vehicles on school grounds Monday morning from approximately 7:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. We don't want to cause undue alarm to the public when they see the activity. This is only an exercise for the emergency responders and a life-lesson for the onlooking students. In addition to the emergency crews, a portion of Shady Lane will be closed from Maffry Avenue to approximately Overbrook Drive for safety purposes.
The public may contact the Macon Police Department if they have any questions regarding the event.
