  • The following Macon Moments in History were taken from the April 11, 1956 edition of the Macon Chronicle-Herald.
    The Macon Board of Education voted to fully finance kindergarten from district funds beginning during the 1956-1957 school year. Any kindergarten age student in the district will be able to attend with no tuition charge.
    Macon Board of Education officers were: Verne Liest, president; Dr. R.D. Maddox, vice-president; E.F. Jurgensmeyer, secretary and Mrs. R.C. Kealey, treasurer.
    Goodell’s located at 107 Vine Street in Macon had some of the following items advertised: 16x24 fluffy chicken feather filled pillows for 69 cents, chenille bedspreads for $3.99, boys all-leather cowboy boots for $2.98 to $3.99 and women’s sleepware for 99 cents.
