James Junior Hartung, born October 15, 1923, at Ten Mile, Missouri, passed away at the Samaritan Hospital in Macon on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at the age of 89. Junior was the son of Jim and Lorine (Poe) Hartung. He is survived by his wife, Dorothea (Bamman) Hartung. They were married on August 26, 1951, in Jacksonville, MO. Also surviving are, one son, Chuck Wilson and his wife Linda of Ten Mile, one granddaughter; Laura Bradshaw and her husband Keith, and their children; Brittany, Ryan and Brylee of Bentonville, Arkansas, one grandson, James Richard “Jamie” Wilson and his wife, Nikki and their children Lauren and Tysen of Ten Mile. Two sisters, Martha Baker of Atlanta, MO, and Hazel Downey and her husband, Rev. Thomas of Moberly, MO and sister-in-law Martha Hartung. He is also survived by an aunt, Mabel McCormick of Moberly, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Sue Overstreet, and one brother, Harvey Hartung.
Junior was a lifelong member of the Ten Mile Baptist Church. He served on the MFA board and the Extension Council. Junior was a prominent farmer from Ten Mile where he farmed the family farm with his brother, Harvey. They raised cattle and row cropped. Junior thought there was no better place on earth than his community, Ten Mile. He enjoyed and loved each member and was always concerned about each one and was the first one there to lend a helping hand. He loved his family and God. For the past 3 years he has lived at Loch Haven Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon with Brother Greg Berglund officiating . Burial will be in the Ten Mile Baptist Church Cemetery east of Ten Mile. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Friday evening, at the funeral home in Macon. Memorials are suggested to Loch Haven Nursing Home.
