  • Although the end of the school year is quickly coming to a close, for some, the preparation for the next school has already begun.
Last week future Macon R-1 Kindergartners attended screenings at the Zion Lutheran Church to prepare for their big first day.
According to Macon Elementary School Counselor Suzanne Truitt, 80 children attended the screenings throughout the week and had various stops throughout the screening.
First is a dial three assessment that consists of concept, motor skill and language testing. A nurse then checks height, weight, immunization and vision. There is even a kindergarten teacher on site who speaks to parents about how exactly to prepare their student. Last stop is enrollment.
“The process takes about an hour and a half,” said Truitt. “All the kids just seem really excited.”
Truitt expects about 20 more students to register before the first day and to have six classes of Kindergartners for the 2013-2014 school year
