  • Chamber hosts annual banquet

  • Walking into the Elks Lodge Friday evening was like walking into another world. Poodle skirts were back in style, 50s style music was being played by the band "Sway" and root beer floats were the drink of the night. But this wasn't any normal Sock Hop. It was the Macon Area Chamber of Commerce's Annual Banquet.
    Guests enjoyed a social hour, dinner catered by Nolands, a presentation by last years business of the year—ConAgra Foods, Inc.—and then Board President Curt McLeland presented awards for the evening. Forty two businesses were presented awards for "Years in Business." The 2012 Business of the Year was then recognized and went to Tiger Country Realty. And last but not least was the presentation of the Volunteer of the Year awarded to Leigh Simon.
    After the presentation, auctioned and raffled items were distributed.
