  • On February 22, at 12:48 a.m., the Macon Fire Department responded to the report of a car fire at a municipal parking lot on the 100th block of East Bourke Street. One fire engine and 12 firefighters were on scene at 12:49 a.m. Fire was found in the engine compartment of the vehicle.
    While extinguishing the car, Jeff Taylor of Macon was found in the car. The Macon County Ambulance was requested to respond, and the fire department personnel started life saving measures on the victim. The victim was turned over the the Macon County Ambulance District for treatment. The victim succumbed to the fire.
    The fire department cleared the scene and was in service at 3:46 a.m.
    The fire department was assisted on scene by the Macon Police Department and Macon County Ambulance District. The  Macon Fire Department was assisted with the investigation by the Macon Police Department and the Missouri Division of Fire Safety. At this time, the fire is still under investigation
