Members of the Macon R-I FFA Chapter hosted their second annual Businessmen's Luncheon on Wednesday in the Macon Area Career Center Commons Area as part of their celebration of National FFA Week.
The group used to sponsor a breakfast, but last year decided to switch to a luncheon.
"This is much better," said FFA Advisor Jarod Womack. "Everyone does not have to get up so early." "The luncheon is definitely better," says FFA President Carson Miller. "It gives us a chance to get up at a normal time."
Miller says that he enjoys helping with the meal. "It is a great way for us to give back to the community for all the support that they have given us."
"These people support us, so it is the least we can do to give something back," adds FFA Treasurer Katy Stoecklein.
FFA Advisor Lonnie Farrington's first hour Ag Communications class along with the FFA officers prepared and serve the meal.
"Some preparations are done the night before," said Womack. "The students arrived at 8 a.m. the day of the meal to cook and prepare the rest of the items."
On the menu were hamburgers, brats, chicken, tilapia, baked beans, potato salad, slaw, fruit salad, cookies, brownies , tea and lemonade.
The students served approximately 120 businesspersons and faculty members.
"It's nice to be able to serve so many people," said Secretary Rebecca Helton," "Having a luncheon allows us to serve more teachers too."
"These are the people who support us all year," said Reporter Bailey Hammontree. "If it wasn't for them we wouldn't be here."
Commodity Day is planned for today (Thursday), with members wearing their chapter t-shirts to school.
Animal and Tractor Day is planned for Friday. On Friday night the Barnwarming Dance is scheduled from 8 to 11 p.m. in the lower level of the Career and Technical Education Center.
