It was announced on Wednesday, Feb. 20 that State Auditor Tom Schweich has started an audit in Macon County. The state auditor routinely audits counties that do not elect a county auditor.
According to Macon County Clerk Shirley Sims, this is just a normal process that takes place in Macon every two to four years.
"It is a wonderful thing really," said Sims. "It keeps us up-to-date on what needs to be done. We welcome the audit."
The auditing process generally lasts for three months.
