  • Approximately 350 individuals gathered at the Macon County Expo Center Saturday evening to not only eat a scrumptious meal and enjoy great company, but also to raise money for scholarships.
The Macon County Cattlemen hosted its 13th annual youth scholarship banquet and according to Cattlemen member Aaron Baker, "it was quite a successful year."
This years banquet raised more than $18,000. "With the money we have been able to raise with the help of local supporters, we have awarded 170 scholarships, totaling more than $96,650 for high school seniors and current college students," said Baker.
The banquet featured a prime rib dinner, brief presentation, raffle, auction and a Texas Hold'em Tournament.
There were more than one hundred items raffled or auctioned that were donated by local businesses.
"The continued success of the banquet is due to the enthusiasm of local cattlemen, businesses, and individuals who participate in the auctions, raffle and other fundraising at the event," said Baker.
All local students with some sort of connection to agriculture are encouraged to apply.
"We really look for kids who are going into agriculture and have an interest in returning back home to our area," said Baker.
