Following a lengthy and courageous battle with a Parkinson’s related disease, Mrs. Joanne Elizabeth (Mook) Schnell died Friday, February 15, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Schnell, a seven year resident of Macon, is survived by her husband of 45 years, seven
months, and seven days, Scott; two sons, S. Rodman and his fiancé Elizabeth Wright; F. Robert and his
wife Kelly; and a daughter, Rebekah Donelson.
She is also survived by three grandchildren, Cody, Schuyler, and Anna; and four great-
grandchildren, Izaiah, Hailey, Izabella, and Zoey.
The family would like it to be known that before her illness, Mrs. Schnell was an engaging and
vivacious woman. Her memory will be cherished.
Joanne’s nursing career spanned 34 years as a geriatric nurse in various locations including the
family’s long time home, Plymouth, MA, and St. Joseph, MO. She was a graduate of Samaritan Nursing
School, Troy, NY, and earned her BSN and AS, HIM, at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph.
She was a long time member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as chapter regent
at the St. Joseph chapter. She also held several other positions in the organization. She believed that
our history was of great interest and import. Mrs. Schnell had a life-long devotion to her family, her
Christian faith, and her career.
Mrs. Schnell was proud of her ability to crochet and sew beautiful sweaters and jackets for her
grandchildren, put in perfect hems, bake the best honey cookies the world around, and that she knew
the Hebrew alphabet, despite its lack of vowels.
A memorial service will be held at Macon United Methodist Church tomorrow at 4 o’clock p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to Hospice Compasses, Macon, MO, 660.385.4400.
