  • It was announced Friday, Feb. 8 that the Macon Public Library received a Technology Mini Grant in the amount of $4,633 from Secretary of State Jason Kander.
The funds will be used to replace two existing computers and to add two more with up-to-date features and software.
"We are very blessed to get what we have," said Director of the Macon Public Library Teri Mayhew.
In addition to this technology grant, the library also received a summer library program grant in the amount of $5,436 on January 31.
The grant will be used for the summer reading program to educate, motivate and expand children's literacy skills.
"With these funds we will be able to visit preschools and read to them," said Mayhew. "We also have presenters scheduled like music, puppeteers, magicians and some wonderful books that go along with the state theme. It's all very exciting."
The theme is "Dig into Reading" for children from birth through eight years old and "Beneath the Surface" for children age nine to 18.
The Secretary of State's technology mini grants and summer library program grants are funded by the Library Services and Technology Act through the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services.
