The Board of Public Works had its meeting on Monday, January 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council’s chamber.
General Manager Stephanie Wilson shared that utility bills increased 21.47 percent over January 1, 2013 customer statements. She stated that electric usage increased 16 percent and natural gas services increased 27 percent. She said this increase usage is due to low temperatures and brisk winds.
Assistant General Manager Scott Lucas noted that electric distribution crews are continuing with arbor management and began a grounding project to improve the integrity of the distribution system.
The water distribution and gas distribution crews tasks were discussed. Some tasks included repairing six main leaks, performing valve operations, inspecting KFC’s grease trap and performing cathodic protection inspections.
Roger Rector updated individuals on the water treatment plant which is being prepared for meter replacement on the discharge headers. Also, mechanical issues with the ultraviolet disinfection system in the wastewater treatment plant are being addressed.
The Board of Public Works’ next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 18 at 5:30 p.m.
