Evelyn Miles, 81, of Macon, MO, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Macon Health Care Center in Macon.
Evelyn was born on August 27, 1931, near Kaseyville, MO, the daughter of Claude Willis and Lillie Elsie (Davidson) Prather. She was united in marriage to Bertram P. Miles on October 21, 1947. Evelyn was known as the “Pie Lady” for her amazing pies and enjoyed making homemade candy—especially divinity--, sewing, and visiting with friends and family.
Evelyn is survived by 8 children, Betty Walker of Smithville, MO, Dennis Miles and his wife Penny of Kirksville, MO, Ruth Miles and Dennis Foster of Mendon, MO, Bill Miles and his wife Cathy of Macon, Miona Richardson of Macon, Linda Farris and Tom Hawkins of Gladstone, MO, Virginia Croucher and her husband Mark of Jenks, OK, and Tana Garrett and her husband Thomas of Ferrelview, MO, 17 grandchildren, Kevin Walker, Amanda (Walker) Steitz, Travis Miles, Shannon Miles, Andrea Miles, Freddy Denney, Anita (Denney) Kennison, Shelby Farris, Dennis King, Markie Croucher, Miles Croucher, Patricia Croucher, Scott Croucher, Eric Richardson, Chasity Garrett, Jennifer Ratliff and Isaac Bailey, 16 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Lottie Barbieri and Laura Faye “Judy” Miles all of Macon, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Lillie Prather, step-father, Frank Perkins, husband Bertram Miles, on May 11, 1995, one sister, Norma Mann, son-in-law, Michael Richardson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Claude and Miona “Brownie” Blomberg, three other brothers-in-law, Bill Mann, Mike Barbieri, and Arvel “Short” Miles, and one nephew, Gary Miles.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Monday, January 28, 2013, at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Macon. Visitation will be from 4-6 pm, Sunday evening, at the funeral home in Macon. The family suggests memorials to the Macon County Ministries (Food Pantry), Randy Johnson Memorial Fund, or the Buddy Backpack Program at school (she never wanted children to go hungry).
