The Village People's rendition of Y.M.C.A. blasted throughout the Macon R-I Middle School Gymnasium on Friday, Jan. 18.
The lively music welcomed the MMS students named to the A&B Honor Rolls to a special incentive activity held during the 7th hour period.
Students could enjoy the music and dance, or just spend the time visiting with their friends.
MMS teacher Heather Durham said that over 100 sixth, seventh and eighth graders earned their way to attend the celebration by being on the A or B Honor Roll.
When asked his favorite part of the event Kendrick Rupp replied, "It's just a fun thing to do, there are so many good songs to dance to."
"This is awesome," said Chase Koch. "Gangnam Style dance is the best part!"
Tyrone Hicks said he liked the incentive party because of the music, "And, we get out of class," he added.
I like being able to see my friends and talk to them without getting in trouble," said Shelby Reilly. "Plus we can do whatever we want."
Following the free time an awards program was held where each student received a silicone bracelet to commemorate being selected to the first quarter honor roll. A different design bracelet will be available each quarter. Students are challenged to stay on the honor roll and earn all four designs.
"The students really seem to enjoy this activity," said Middle School Principal Dustin Fanning.
