At approximately 1:45 p.m. Thursday, members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Shelby County Sheriff's Department responded to Community State Bank in Clarence after the report of a bank robbery.
Preliminary information indicated that a white male wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt entered the bank with a handgun, demanded money and fled the scene on foot with an undetermined amount of money.
A short time later, an observer saw a male matching the preliminary description enter a blue Pontiac parked in a nearby parking lot and drive away. The individual followed the vehicle out of Clarence and onto Shelby County roads while advising law enforcement officers.
Law enforcement quickly located the Pontiac abandoned one and a half miles northeast of Clarence on a country road. Officers set up a search perimeter and utilized a Patrol aircraft.
At approximately 2:50 p.m., a Patrol canine unit located the suspect, Cody A. Barber, 26, of Moulton, Iowa and took him into custody.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Monroe County Sheriff's Department, Macon County Sheriff's Department, Macon Police Department and the Missouri Department of Conservation assisted in the investigation.
Barber is being charged with felony robbery in the first degree, felony armed criminal action, possession of stolen property and an unlawful use of a weapon.
He was taken to the Shelby County Jail where he is held on a 24 hour hold awaiting the filing of formal charges.
According to the Patrol, the investigation is ongoing and law enforcement officers are investigating the possibility of an accomplice.
