  • The sound of giggles and the smell of pancakes filled the First Christian Church Saturday morning during the yearly Girl Scout cookie kickoff.
"It's an event where they can all come together, get geared up and ready to go sell," said Cookie Chair Sheila Wilcox. "We start them out with a good breakfast so they can get up and go."
Modeste Ewing's troop prepared and served the pancakes as part of their community service. Troop 9501 served approximately 120 to 150 people.
Not only did the girls and their families get to enjoy a warm breakfast, but they also got their cookie sale order forms.
Approximately 100 girls will be selling in Macon County this year until March 27. What will they be selling? The favorites like Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties and Caramel deLites, in addition to a new flavor—Mango Crèmes. It's a vanilla and coconut cookie filled with a tangy mango-flavored crème enhanced with nutrients derived from fruits.
"I'm excited to go sell," said Girl Scout Keely Hicks. "I'm going to sell A LOT of cookies."
Girl Scouts isn't just about selling cookies either. It helps girls build confidence and lifetime skills. For Lilli Crooks it's more too. "I like that everyone in my troop is so nice," said Lilli. "We talk about great things that inspire me."
