Wednesday evening the Macon Fire Department responded to a fire on the 200 block of Butler Street that led to a little more.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a dresser on fire in an upstairs bedroom and extinguished it with a water extinguisher. There was a heavy amount of smoke in the structure and moderate damage to the wall behind the dresser and ceiling above it. During the fire investigation, Macon Firemen reported suspicious items inside the residence to the Macon Police Department. After further investigation, officers arrested a 55-year-old male of Macon for: manufacturing a controlled substance (marijuana), possession with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers seized numerous items from the residence including 20 potted marijuana plants.
According to Ross Dutton, Fire Chief, the cause of the fire was determined to be incendiary in nature. Macon Police Department and Fire Department was was assisted by Macon Municipal Utilities and the North Missouri Drug Task Force.
