  • Monday's Snowstorm causes accidents

  • The snow started coming down in Macon around 8 a.m. Monday and not soon after accidents were happening one after another. Macon Police Chief Steve Olinger said there were a total of seven reported property accidents and at least five calls about slide offs where assistance was needed.
    Macon Chronicle-Herald reader Shelly Schaefer says she witnessed a spin out in the school parking lot around 10 a.m. According to Schaefer, the individual was not going fast at all. Luckily no one was hurt in that incident.
    Macon residents weren't the only individuals having issues driving during this holiday weekend. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, they investigated 26 traffic crashes, which resulted in two fatalities and nine injuries.
    When road conditions are poor make sure to use the following tips: slow down, steer and brake gently, accelerate slowly at intersections and make sure to have plenty of distance between your vehicle and the one ahead of you.
