Marie Farmer, 98, of Macon, MO, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012, at the Samaritan Hospital in Macon.
Marie was born on April 17, 1914, in Keota, MO, the daughter of John “Jack” and Alpha (Miller) Hogan. She began her fifth grade year the first year the Catholic School opened in Macon. Marie graduated from Macon High School in 1932. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Monroe Farmer on November, 4, 1934, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Macon. Marie worked as a secretary in Macon for Noel’s Insurance for many years and also for the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home beginning in 1985. She was a very active member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Altar Society, and a charter member of the Legion of Mary, and served communion to home-bound church members for many years. Marie was awarded the Older Adult Worker of the Year Award in 1992. She used to enjoy bowling with her husband and helping with the children at church.
Marie is survived by four nieces, Jane Twyman and her husband Jim of Edina, MN, Jackie McGrane and her husband Joseph of Neenah, WI, Kay Russell of Jackson, MI, and Sue Jones of Springfield, MO, one nephew, Dr. John Hogan of Kansas City, MO, close friends, Gary and Kathy McElwain of Macon, and several great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on February 23, 1961, two brothers, Miller John Hogan and John Paul Hogan, and one sister, Catherine Hogan Purdy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Thursday, December 20, 2012, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Macon with Father Dave Veit officiating. A prayer service and Rosary will begin at 6:30 pm, Wednesday, at the Hutton & McElwain funeral Home in Macon. Visitation will follow from 7-9 pm. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Macon. Memorials are suggested to the Immaculate Conception Church School.
