  • Ida Lorene Jones, 89, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at the Kingston Residence in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
    Lorene was born on July 9, 1923, in Ethel, MO, the daughter of Wade A. and Mary E. (Kisor) Overstreet.  She graduated from Macon High School.   Later, she completed a program of business studies at Massey Business College.  
    Lorene was united in marriage to Bobby J. “Bob” Jones on July 20, 1941. Shortly after the marriage, the couple moved to Chicago, Illinois where she accepted employment in the manufacturing industry just prior to the U.S. involvement in World War II.
    After the war she relocated to the Kansas City area and resided there for many years with her husband and two sons in Overland Park, Kansas.  In addition to her commitment as a homemaker, loving wife, mother and tireless caregiver, she worked for the Kansas City Public Library system, and provided bookkeeping and administrative support to the family businesses
    Lorene loved to cook, garden, and travel.  She was an avid reader and was often engaged in solving crossword puzzles.  She was touched by the beauty of nature, admiring flora, fauna, striking landscapes and the many other wonders that nature bestows.  
    She moved with her husband to Lakeland, Florida in 1979 where she resided for almost 33 years.  She was an active member of the First Methodist Church of Lakeland.  She was deeply committed to her church and volunteered countless hours to church activities including teaching youth and working to support mission activities.  Lorene’s fellowship and support will be dearly missed by friends, family and loved ones.
    Lorene is survived by her two sons; Randall B. (Randy) Jones and his wife Cecilia, and Terrence D. (Terre) Jones and his wife Polly, all of Santa Fe, one granddaughter, Eryn Lampe of Sterling, VA, and two great-grandsons, Jacob and Dylan.
    She was preceded in death by her husband on August 21, 2010, her parents, and one sister, A. Louise McLemore.
    Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, December 17, 2012, at the Hutton and McElwain Funeral Home in Macon, MO.  Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Macon.  Visitation will be from 9:15 am until the time of service.  Memorials are suggested to Habitat for Humanity or the other charity of your choice.
