The Macon Tigers played three solid quarters, but lost a heartbreaker 44-39, to Boonville in their consolation semi-final game of the Centralia Invitational Tournament.
The Pirates led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter.
The Tigers out scored their opponents 10-6 in the second frame to take a two point lead into the locke room at the half.
The game was back and forth in the third, with the Tigers taking a three point lead to the fourth quarter.
The last quarter proved to be the difference in the game, as the Tigers were out scored 17-6.
Trey Kothe was the only Tiger in double figures with 11.
Brendan Watts was next, scoring eight, followed by Craig Smith with seven.
Tyronne Walker tossed in five and Josh Turner and Kendall Kothe each scored four points.
The Tigers will have a tough test on the road next week in search of their first win of the young season.
Tuesday the varsity teams travel to Chillicothe to face the Hornets. On Thursday they will make the long trip to Putnam County. Saturday’s game will be at Kirksville, with the girls game beginning at 5 p.m.
Dec. 28-Jan. 5 the Macon teams will be in the Highland tournament.
The Macon teams will be back in front of the home crowd on Jan. 8 against Monroe City.
