The Macon Varsity girls punched their ticket to the championship game of the Centralia Invitational Basketball Tournament on Wednesday night with a 41-27 win over Sturgeon.
Sturgeon led at the end of the first quarter 10-8.
The Tigerettes came on strong in the second quarter, and never looked back. They outscored their opponents by double digits 16-5 and took a 24-15 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Both teams came out a little cold after halftime with Macon netting 5 to Sturgeon’s 2 in the third frame.
Macon added to their lead in the 4th quarter with 12 points, while Sturgeon had 10 to take the win 41-27.
Coach Dan Halley said it was a great team defensive effort for his team.
Trinity Rainey led the way for the Tigerettes with 16 points.
The only other Tigerette in double figures was Valerie Schmidt with 11.
Rounding out the scoring for Macon was Chalee Britt with six, Shelby Butner with four, Katie Clapp tossed in three, and Audrey Freeman had one.
The Tigerettes advance to the championship game on Friday night at 8 p.m. Their opponent will be North Callaway who won the other semi-final girls bracket game 50-38 against Salisbury.
The Tigers will take the court tonight (Thursday) in a 4:30 p.m. contest against Boonville.
The Tigers & Tigerettes will be on the road for the rest of 2012. Their next home game will be on Jan. 8 when they host Monroe City.
