  • Macon Elementary students learn about Russia

  • Students at Macon R-1 Elementary School got the opportunity to learn about the art, music and culture of Russia. The program was through The Cultural Kaleidoscope out of Kansas City.

  • Students at Macon R-1 Elementary School got the opportunity to learn about the art, music and culture of Russia on Monday, Dec. 4. Sergei Shapoval is pictured speaking to 4th grade students during an afternoon workshop. The programs included a slide presentation about Moscow, a video highlighting a traditional folk dance and a live demonstration of Russian folk instruments. Students in kindergarten through 5th grade attended one of two assemblies in the morning. In the afternoon workshops for students in 2nd - 5th grades, Shapoval elaborated on individual art objects and other unique materials. There was also a time for him to answer the student's questions. Shapoval was born in Krivoi Rog, Ukraine. He has a Master's degree in Music Education from the Gnessin Pedagogical Institute in Moscow.
