MMS basketball takes on Centralia
The Macon Middle School 7th grade boys basketball team played host to Centralia Monday night, and would come away with a big win.
In the first half, things started slowly for both sides, as Centralia led 5-4 after one quarter.
Macon grabbed a lead in the second period, but the Panthers would tie the game at halftime, 13-13.
The Tigers would blow the game wide open in the second half, as they outscored Centralia 29-13 to roll to a 42-26 victory.
Ethan Bray led the Tigers with 16 points. Terrace Duncan followed with seven points.
Meade Fry scored six points. Shane Levett cashed in three points.
Ryan Gibson, Shawn Roberts, Tyrone Hicks, Colby Harland and Cade Hicks each added two points.
The 7th grade Tigers improve to 4-0 and play at Moberly tonight.
The Macon Middle school 8th grade basketball teams faced off against the Centralia Panthers Monday night.
The Tigerettes traveled to Centralia for their game, and would come away with a big 41-32 victory.
The Tigerettes would lead 12-8 following the first period. Centralia would keep it close in the second quarter, but Macon still led 21-18 at halftime.
The Tigerettes began to pull away in the third, as they outscored Centralia 9-2 to take a 32-20 lead.
A balanced scoring effort in the fourth quarter would give Macon the nine-point win.
"The girls played heads-up defense and really hustled," coach Leslie Miller said. "Centralia could not handle the pressure defense."
Cassie Martin led the Tigerettes with 21 points. Megan Rowland and Mariah Gann each scored five points.
Madison Ballance scored four points. Angel Harrison tallied three points, and Avery Foster added one point.
Meanwhile, the 8th grade Tiger boys played host to thePanthers, and would slowly pull away to beat Centralia 33-23.
Leading 6-2 following the first quarter, Macon would outscore Centralia 12-8 to take an 18-10 lead at halftime.
The Tigers would score 15 points in the second half, holding Centralia to 13, giving Macon the 10-point victory.
Malik Jones led the Tigers with 17 points. Caleb Brown followed with 11 points.
Jarrett Baker and Cole Bisch each tallied two points, and Nolan Bright added one points.
The 8th grade Tigers improve to 3-3 and will participate in the South Shelby Tournament next week, awaiting their foe as the top seed.
