  • The Eldon High School basketball coach who faced off against the board of education over allegations of unsportsmanlike behavior has been released from a two-game suspension.
On Monday, when the Eldon Mustangs take the court in their season opener against Linn R-II Wildcats, Jimmy Lincoln will be on the court with his players. In 2012, Lincoln led the Mustangs to a 21- 6 season.
Late this week, the board and Lincoln reached an agreement eliminating his suspension and extending his contract with the district until the end of the 2014 season. Lincoln tendered his letter of resignation effective at the end of the 2014 season. Lincoln agreed to a letter of reprimand for "unsportsmanlike behavior," according to his attorney, Mike McDorman of Lake Ozark/Versailles.
Lincoln agreed to sign a code of conduct, which is standard for all coaches in the Eldon district.
Earlier this year, Lincoln was accused of making derogatory remarks, using inappropriate language and an allegation that he elbowed a player from an opposing team.
Superintendent Matt Davis had recommended the board to fire the coach for the alleged misconduct, igniting a firestorm of controversy.
During Lincoln's hearing, more than 100 residents of the district, along with students and players attended, in a show of support for the coach.
At the public hearing, Lincoln denied elbowing the player, which witnesses for the coach corroborated, and denied using profanity on one of the incidences the school board claimed he did during the Osage shootout. He admitted to using profanity on two other occasions at the shootout. The hearing lasted more than eight hours.
Lincoln is in his third year as head of the boys basketball team.
The school district has spent in excess of $42,800 in legal fees on the case involving the coach.
