On Sunday, at approximately 8:50 a.m., the Randolph County Sheriff's Department was notified that a family was transporting an unresponsive male child to the Moberly Regional Medical Center in Moberly.
Sgt. Brent Bernhardt, Public Information and Education Officer withTroop B in Macon said in a news release, when officers arrived at the hospital, 18-month-old Jayden Bradds, of rural Clark, had been pronounced dead.
Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control were requested to assist with the death investigation.
Sunday afternoon at approximately 2:45 p.m., Joe Laswell, 23, of rural Clark, was arrested for domestic assault in the second degree and child abuse, with additional charges pending.
Laswell, an acquaintance of the child's mother, was transported to the Randolph County Jail where he is currently being held on a 24-hour hold.
Sgt. Bernhardt said, “The investigation is on-going, and an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday at the Boone County Medical Examiner's office in Columbia.
