Chillicothe's defense forced five turnovers on Thursday night as the Hornets defeated Macon 30-8 to advance to the second round in Class 3 District 6 play.
Chillicothe's DJ Gannan started the scoring with a 30-yard field goal in the first quarter. They added two touchdowns in the second quarter, one on a 7-yard run and another on an interception return to take a 16-0 lead into the half.
Neither team scored in the third period, but Macon cut the lead in half on a 45-yard touchdown pass with 10 minutes to play in the game. The Hornets answered right back with a 50-yard run and then added another touchdown late in the game to seal the victory.
Macon ends their season at 6-4, while Chillicothe improved to 3-7. The Hornets will now travel to California next Wednesday to take on the Pintos, who beat Missouri Military Academy 71-0 in a game called at halftime.
