  • It was a very windy night for the start of the football game between Macon and Highland Friday night.
When it was time for kickoff, however, the wind had died down a little bit.
The Tigers would win the coin-toss, but opted to kick the ball away to start the game.
The Highland running attack found some holes in the Macon defense and would run it down into the Tiger redzone.
Macon would stand them up on third down, and would force Highland to try a field goal. The 27-yard attempt by junior Laine Sly was good, giving the Cougars a 3-0 lead.
After receiving the kickoff, Macon would eat up four minutes of the clock, and drive down the field, resulting in a 15-yard TD run by Tyrone Walker at the 3:48 mark of the first quarter. Andre Reynolds hit the PAT to give the Tigers a 7-3 lead.
Macon pinned Highland deep on the kickoff, and the Tiger "D" came up big again, as defensive back Levi Walker picked off a Cougar pass and ran it back 18 yards for the score. Reynolds' PAT gave Macon a 14-3 lead.
Highland tried to get some more offense before the quarter ended, but Macon would force a fumble, recovered by lineman Bradley Burkhardt.
The first quarter ended with Macon leading 14-3.
Just 27 seconds into the second quarter, Macon would strike again, this time on a 17-yard TD run by Tyrone Walker. The PAT by Reynolds gave Macon a 21-3 lead.
That score would stick until the 5:20 mark of the second quarter.
Macon had driven down to the Cougar 2-yard line, and running back Chris Little punched it in for six. Reynolds' PAT made the halftime score 28-3.
The Tigers received the second half kickoff, and ate up about 4:30 of the third quarter on their drive. At the 8:39 mark, RB Little would find pay dirt once again on a six-yard touchdown run. Reynolds' PAT made the score 35-3.
Later on, at the 3:08 mark of the third, the second-string offense got a chance for some plays, and it would pay handsomely, as running back Kaleb Welch broke through the Cougar line and raced 51 yards for a touchdown. Reynolds' PAT boosted the score to 42-3.
The third-string for Macon would also get some work in during the fourth quarter.
With the game clock approaching four minutes to go, freshman running back Austen Harrison would break the Highland defense and rush 21 yards for a touchdown. Andre Reynolds' 7th PAT of the night made the score 49-3.
Highland had one last chance for points, but the Tiger defense slammed the door, forcing a fumble which was recovered by lineman Kevin Noyes, preserving the 49-3 win for the Macon Tigers.
