Seven-year-old Logan Sims was having fun playing around a swimming pool while on vacation with his family at the Lake of the Ozarks during the Labor Day Holiday.
His play was interrupted with a small child frantically yelling for help.
“I heard a little girl yell for help in the swimming pool, and I saw her go under the water,” Logan said. “She looked like she was around two years old.”
Without hesitating Logan jumped in the pool to help her.
“I reached into the water and put my arms under her armpits and pulled her up,” Logan said. He was going to set her down at the edge of the pool, but she didn’t want to let go of him. So he carried her out of the pool.
The little girl’s mother came to Logan and took her daughter from his arms without saying much, Logan said.
The word of his heroic act found its way to Macon Elementary School, and his teacher gave him a heroes award and a big candy bar.
We want the community to know there is a hero in our midst.
“Thank you, Logan, for noticing someone in need and stepping out to help. You are our hero.”
Logan is the son of Chris and Rebecca Sims. He is the grandson of Ken and Billie Jane Salsman and Gary and Shirley Sims, all of Macon.
