Macon sweeps South Shelby, splits Mark Twain

After topping Louisiana on the road, and having the Cairo Tourney postponed, the Macon Tigerette softball team played host to the Lady Birds of South Shelby Monday night.

The first game was the JV contest, and Macon would come up with three runs in the final inning to get past South Shelby 9-8.

Chalee Britt pitched three innings for Macon, allowing two hits, walking five and striking out one.

Allie Chambers went 2-2 with a single, triple and a walk. Kyra Oliver was 1-3 with a double.

Britt was 2-3 with two singles. Regan Gravitt was 1-2 with a single and was hit by the pitch. Abby Seipel was 2-3 with two singles.

Mackenzie Reilly was 1-2 with a single, and Mackenzie Claas was 1-2 with a single. Taylor Brucks also walked.

In the varsity game, the Tigerettes would jump on South Shelby in the first, posting half a dozen runs to take a 6-0 lead.

That score would hold until the fifth inning, when the Lady Birds scored two runs, cutting the lead to 6-2. The Tigerettes got the run back in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-2 lead.

South would get one more in the seventh, but Macon held on for a 7-3 victory.

Shelby Ziebarth pitched a complete game for the Tigerettes, allowing three runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out seven, hitting one batter.

Ziebarth was 2-3 from the plate, with two singles and a walk. Katie Clapp was 3-4 with two singles and a double.

Paige Klocke was 1-3 with a double and was hit by the pitch. Kayla Vansickle had a walk.

Katy Stoecklein was 1-3 with a double. Brooke Bernhardt was 1-4 with a single, and Allison Bright was 1-3 with a bunt single.

The varsity Tigerettes improved to 3-4 overall (2-3 CCC).

On Tuesday night, the Tigerettes traveled to Center to take on the tough Mark Twain Lady Tigers.

In the JV game, Macon would pick up their second win in as many games with a 7-4 victory.

In the varsity game, the Tigerettes would be nearly shut down by Twain pitcher Kenzie Grossman.

She would throw a complete game no-hitter, with nine strikeouts in a 4-1 win for Mark Twain.

Shelby Ziebarth pitched for Macon, allowing seven hits and walking two.

The only baserunner for Macon was Kayla Vansickle, who reached on a walk.

The Tigerettes dropped to 3-5 overall (2-4 CCC).

Macon is back in action Thursday night, when they play host to the Class 2 defending champion Palmyra Lady Panthers.
