The Macon Fire Department will be delivering a Hazardous Materials Awareness course on Sept. 29. This course will be held at the Macon Fire Department and will begin at 8 a.m and continue until the course is finished that day. This is a mandatory course for any agency responding in the capacity as a first responder and is a prerequisite for Hazardous Materials Operations.
The Macon Fire Department will be delivering a Hazardous Materials Operations course on Oct. 13, 14, 20, and 21. The class will be held at the Macon Fire Department and will begin at 8 a.m. hours each day and run until approximately 5 p.m. Practical skills for the Operations course is tentatively set for Oct. 27, beginning at 8 a.m. It is mandatory for all fire departments to be trained to the minimum level of Operations.
Dutton said,This course will not be taught from the MuFRTI/SEMA curriculum or use their materials and is not registered through either of these respective agencies. This class is being conducted through Missouri Division of Fire Safety. The student manual for this course will be the IFSTA Essentials of Fire Fighting & Fire Department Operations Fifth (5th) Edition. This edition includes the hazardous materials awareness and operations sections that will be used for the class.
If you do not have access to this edition of the essentials guide, Dutton said, contact him and he will provide a student manual on compact disc so that copies can be made for your agency.
"I will not be providing manuals for the class," Dutton said. "It will be required for each student to have a manual prior to class. Students without manuals will not be allowed to participate in the course(s).
There is no fee for either of the Hazardous Materials courses and Dutton will be paying the practical skills testing fees for the Operations course.
Dutton there is no class size limit for the Awareness course.
"The Operations class has a limit of 15 students due to practical skills testing," Dutton said. "As of now, there are seven seats available for the Operations class. If you are unable to make it into the Operations course, let me know and we can possibly make arrangements to host another course for your agency."
