After a long season off, the Bevier Lady Cats softball team looked for their first win under new head coach Luke O'Laughlin Thursday night in Green City against the Lady Gophers.
Bevier would jump ahead early and never look back, as they scored three in the first inning, and two more in the sixth to defeat Green City 5-2.
Memphis Buster started for the Lady Cats. She went the whole seven innings, allowing the two earned runs just two hits, walking two while striking out five.
Ceianna Edwards would go 1-3 with a walk for the Lady Cats from the dish. Tayler Hedworth was 1-3 with a triple, walk, RBI and a run scored.
Beth Ashenfelter was 0-2, but walked twice, had an RBI and scored a run. Francesca Lenzini was 1-3.
Shiloh Wilson was 1-3 with a double, walk and an RBI. Kennedy Harpster was 1-2 with a walk and a run scored.
Alexis Schultz had a big game, going 3-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Rachel Lowe was 0-3 with a walk, and Buster was 0-3 with a walk and a run scored.
The Lady Cats improved to 1-0 overall (1-0 TCC).
And what about the Wildcat baseball squad? They would finish the sweep of Green City with a 4-3 victory.
McKenzey Pipes pitched all seven innings for the Wildcats, allowing the three runs on five hits, walking four and striking out an impressive 11 Gophers.
John Fiquet had a double, Colby Peukert had a single, Jacob Tolle had a single, and Aaron Peter had a single.
The Wildcat men move to 1-0 overall (1-0 TCC.)
The Lady Cats played in the Atlanta Tourney on Saturday.
Bevier will host Linn County Tuesday evening.
