  • Macon R-1 School Board member Donny Wyatt recently completed school board training sessions sponsored by the Missouri Association of Rural Education (MARE) that was held in Macon. Wyatt is pictured, left, receiving his certificate from board president Jim Rehard. Topics included: establishment of the board and responsibilities, being an effective board member, public school laws of Missouri, school finance, assessment of students and the local school district and long range district planning. Following the enactment of Senate Bill 380, "The Outstanding Schools Act of 1993," all newly elected/appointed school board members must complete as least 16 hours of orientation and training within one-year. MARE annually provides training at several locations around the state. Board member Steve Burns plans to complete his training at the Missouri School Board Association's annual conference in September.
