  • A two-vehicle wreck sent five people to the hospital on Friday at approximately 5:55 p.m. 1/2 mile east of Callao on Hickory Street.
    According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, an eastbound1992 Ford Ranger driven by Damian L. Hughes, 16, of Callao was on the wrong side of the road and met a westbound 2008 Ford Focus driven by William T. McCully, 73, at a hill crest.
    After impact, the McCully vehicle came to rest off the north side of the roadway.
    Both drivers were transported to Samaritan Hospital by Macon County Ambulance.
    Three passengers in the Hughes' vehicle were also transported to the hospital. Cody S. Brockman, 15, of Jacksonville; Austin J. Kent, 17, of Ethel and Justin L. Thomas, 12, of New Cambria all appeared to have minor injuries.
    The patrol said both drivers and two passengers were wearing seatbelts.
    Assisting at the scene was the Callao Fire Department and the Macon County Rescue Squad.
