Kala Baker, formerly of Macon, was crowned Miss Ray County on Saturday, June 16 at the Farris Theatre in Richmond. Kala was among eight contestants who were judged on interview, talent, active wear and evening wear. For her talent presentation Kala sang and played the piano to “There’s a Place For Us”. As Queen, Kala received a $2,300 scholarship and is eligible to compete in the Missouri State Fair Queen Pageant. Kala is a 2012 graduate of Lawson High School and the daughter of Darrell and Carolyn Baker of Lawson. She is the granddaughter of Gene & Roberta Baker of Macon and Loretta Green of Kearney. Kala is the fifth person in the Baker family to win Miss Ray County her aunts Naomi Wendel , Brenda Hardin and cousins Arron Wendel and Amber Wendel have all won the pageant.
